Is practicing Law of Attraction like taking a Spiritual Drug?

It came to me recently that practicing Law of Attraction is like taking a drug. A drug is a vibrational frequency that is taken to neutralize another vibrational pattern in your body. Practicing Law of Attraction (LOA) is attempting to change a vibrational pattern in your mind by using different thought (vibration). Both attempt to make you feel better.

Sometimes the drug/thoughts work. Sometimes it seems like they don’t. The results can be very quick or very slow. When you don’t have the exact vibrational fit, then there are side effects. Neither get you to the root cause which is our beliefs. In LOA it is said that it works because you address the root cause namely your thoughts. And beliefs are just persistent thoughts. Just adding better feeling thoughts on top of chronic beliefs is just a cover up like a drug. Then, you feel better until the next…..happens.

When they don’t seem to work (drugs or LOA), we blame ourselves or point to someone else to blame for it not working. We question what’s wrong with us, our worthiness, intelligence…etc. We try harder, add other things, get different opinions and the list goes on and on as our trouble remains.

There is only one way to understand your beliefs. You have to get to know them, question them and then allow them to die. I will discuss this more in future posts.

LOA helps, just like drugs do sometimes. But our dependence on them just covers up the deeper issues.

Until recently, I had been a big fan of the Law of Attraction. In fact, I lead two Meetup Groups whose only focus used to be the Law of Attraction. I am very well versed on the subject and can give an answer to almost any question there is on the subject. And I loved Abraham-Hicks and still do because their work has great value for many. There is nothing wrong with following LOA, but the way it is understood by most, it is used like a drug.

    Fred,

I draw a distinction between Law Of Attraction: The Universal Law ,and Law Of Attraction: The Teaching

The Universal Law is at work whether believed or not, and cannot be seen as a drug, any more than gravity can be.

I can see how The Teachings can be used as a drug, but I’m curious as to why you state that this is the way it is “understood by most.” How could this be absolutely true? What has caused you to believe this?

None of it is absolutely true. That is the ultimate point. Do we really know the Universal Law and how it works? It appears that a practice/drug works or not, but do we really know that it is? Science tells us now that our left brains (logical) part receives data at a max. 15 bits per second. So what part of the “big picture” are we really getting?

The teachings are just a different belief system and that is OK. But to get to the root of your suffering, simply reaching for better feeling thoughts no matter what process you use will just be a temporary solution making you feel better, just like a drug.

It’s a big subject that I have just scratched the surface of. My guidance is just moving me beyond LOA. I resisted this at first because of my strong attachment to the beliefs. I understand that writing this will be controversial especially with my LOA friends. All I can suggest is that you be as transparent as possible and question everything.

I hear you, Fred. I remember in the recent past when I was forwarding other perspectives to you, you replied that Abraham was enough for you. Do you remember that? I’m happy to see the expansion.

Regarding reaching for a better feeling thought: Isn’t every bottom marked by an inflection point? There are many ways to turn things around, but how can it measured? If not by how we feel, then by what?
